There are 35 playable Pilots in Brigador, each having accepted the open contract issued by the Solo Nobre Concern to subvert the colony of Solo Nobre. Some can be used during the Campaign, piloting specific loadsets, while all pilots can be used in Freelance mode once purchased on the Acquisitions screen.
In Freelance mode, the Pilot you choose (along with your vehicle and equipment) will determine the overall difficulty of a mission, as well as the final reward multiplier applied to the player's earnings upon completion. Each Pilot has their own unique values for:
- The difficulty at the outset of a Freelance operation
- The amount the difficulty rises after each District in an operation is completed
- The maximum difficulty reachable during a Freelance operation
- Mission completion bonuses
- Potential overall reward multiplier
Pilots fall into one of two camps: those with static difficulty values for the duration of an operation, and those whose difficulty increases as the operation proceeds.
Difficulty is rated on a 1 to 13 scale (13 being labeled "MAX" in-game) and determines both the overall size of the opposing force and the type of enemy vehicles encountered in a district; small, weaker units are replaced by stronger vehicles with more advanced loadouts as the difficulty rises.
